The Pittsburgh Dance Junction is an event that brings a handful of Pittsburgh based dance artists to the spotlight. Each artist will present an excerpt of their work and we will promote any and all upcoming performances and artistic involvements . We are solidifying a very exciting line up for our first Dance Junction and will have details about each artist very shortly!

“Belong Here” is a new works in progress by Pittsburgh based choreographer Renee Smith about the exploration of social, emotional, and physical attachments to the idea of belonging. Traveling through adolescence, adulthood, and the search for an eternal home following one’s final days on Earth, the dance studies social structures that shape the yearning and desperation that accompany acceptance and rejection. Created through a series of movement phrases, guided improvisation, and conversations regarding actions and reactions to cultural standards of normalcy, Smith and her dancers approach specific events that sculpt our expectations for receiving love and approval. “Belong Here” is a contemporary dance piece describing instincts of human nature to [Be Part Of; Be In Proper Place] Belong.
